5 Reasons Why You Should Not Ignore Your Testosterone Levels

Testosterone is the male sex hormone that is released during puberty and helps develop a boy’s secondary sexual characteristics.

As with all things, too low or too high testosterone levels can spell trouble.

In this article, we’ll be discussing the importance of testosterone and why you shouldn’t ignore your testosterone levels and always get them checked.

If your testosterone is too low you might experience:

Lower Libido

Testosterone is important for maintaining a healthy sexual appetite.

Low levels of testosterone (also known as Low T) can make it difficult to get and maintain an erection.

Not to mention it also leads to your libido dropping notably, to the point where you find sex uninteresting, which may cause trouble in your romantic endeavors.

Reduced Muscle Mass and Increased Body Fat

Testosterone is the chief reason that males are often considerably stronger and faster than women – it contributes to greater muscle mass and a lower percentage of body fat as you burn more calories.

This is why too little testosterone can contribute to a reduction in muscle mass and increased body fat. In a similar vein, low T can also lead to increased weight.

The difficulty with Concentration and Memory Loss

Another unfortunate side effect of low levels of testosterone is that you’ll find you have more difficulty concentrating than you normally would.

Low T has also been linked to having a poor memory, which again stems from an inability to concentrate.

5 Reasons Why You Should Not Ignore Your Testosterone Levels

Osteoporosis

Osteoporosis is a condition whereby you suffer from weakening bones, which are far more likely to fracture and break.

This is a condition which many old people face, but can also befall men with low testosterone, although it is in more extreme cases.

Loss of Body Hair

Lower levels of testosterone can lead to loss of body hair, which is why you may see a lot of middle-aged or older men with not so much body hair. Testosterone levels naturally drop as you grow older in age, which yet another reason you can look forward to growing up.

Is there something to be done?

As much as there are negative consequences to low levels of testosterone, it’s not all bad, because there are ways to fix it. There are natural testosterone boosters that one can take (under a doctor’s supervision hopefully). Furthermore, a popular route that many men who face this problem is testosterone therapy, although there are some reservations surrounding this type of treatment which is why it is usually reserved for men who really need it.

The main takeaway from all of this is that low (or high)  testosterone can be quite harmful and can have a large negative impact on men, which is why you are absolutely recommended to never ever ignore your testosterone levels (whether they are too low or too high). If you find that there might be a problem, talk to your physician and get an idea of what your options are and what the best course of action is.
